How many people in Dawson Creek speak Spanish?
So i went and seen Pan's Labyrith at the cineplex a few months back. It was one of the best movies i had seen in a long, long time. It actually made you feel real suspense and fear. Not that over hyped,"using the music" to build it up crap, but the kind that you felt when you were young and you weren't sure what was in the dark. Anyways check it out, very good.
So it came out on dvd a few a weeks ago, and i wanted to go get a copy for my movie collection, but pay day landed on a thursday, not tuesday! So i'm thinking sure it's foreign and the crappy stores in town won't get that many copies, but it's foreign so not that many people will want it. See i worked at a video store for over 4 years, i know what people like. I remember when Passion of the Christ came out, over a 3rd of the town phoned us at the store to ask how they could switch the dvd to english!! We were like "no, he made it in the language that Jesus actually spoke," and they were like "well i didn't rent a movie to read it, if i wanted that i would have got a book"! Even when the previews for Pan's Labyrith started, people would phone us and say "when you getting that in?," and we would let them know and that it would be in the foreign film section, and they would say "what, it's not foreign".....my respones to that was "did you hear them say anything at all in the perview, no just the narrator and beautiful cinema". So silly me taking in to account this knowledge though, hey i at least have a couple of day's to pick up my copy.......
But no! Apperently everyone in Dawson Creek had learned to speak spanish over the last couple of months, cause when i got down to our local walmart they were sold out! But no fear i still had the zellers to try......big denied there. And the local video stores got lots for rent in but none for sale, and the copies for rent were completly rented and have been rented out for the past 4 weeks!!! So have the tides turned?Are people actually wanting to learn? Nope i think after seeing the preview people though it was gonna be the new "gory lord of the ring"ish sort of thing and gore does seem to be the new pink. I hope for the sake of it being such a eye-appeasing pleasure, that people looked beyond the subtitles and saw the movie for the spectacular work it is. And as for my copy for my collection...all i can say is thank god for amazon and credit cards!!
